The Underhill Biography
Early to Mid 1990's
During the 1990's and before, Rod Underhill
practiced law as a trial attorney, and counseled members
of Los Angeles's animation and comics industry. Underhill
also published a series of independent comics. He also assisted in the licensing of a famed character to the Teen Aged Mutant Turtles toy line up.
Underhill continuesto be involved in the comics and animation world. He is a past member of the Cartoon Artist Professional Society, a society of professional animators and comic artists.
One of Underhill's legal cases received national recognition and he appeared on the Geraldo Show to discuss the case. Underhill received a significant award as a trial attorney in 1997.
1998-2001 MP3.com
Underhill served as a cofounder of MP3.com, the technology company that reached a valuation exceeding 6 billion dollars. Ultimately, MP3.com was sold via merger to Vivendi-Universal. It took about 18 months to take the company from zero value to the six billion dollars plus valuation.
Underhill wrote two significant technology books in the Complete Idiot Guide series, with coauthor Nat Gertler, one on MP3 technology and the second on Internet business models. The former was released Internationally in French, English, Spanish and Polish editions.
Underhill invited to join the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (owners of the Grammy Awards.)
2001-2007
Underhill was appointed an adjunct Professor of Law at
Thomas Jefferson School of Law, San Diego, where he taught technology law as well as music law.
Underhill began providing assistance to technology start ups. A select group of these start ups are mentioned in the Projects area of this site.
Keynote speaker at Rocky Mountain Venture Club venture capital conference, Colorado.
2008 Webby Award Winner (People's Voice Award)
Underhill is recognized for his contributions to Mobile technology.
Underhill is brought in by a significant company to assist in the completion of a technology patent with an estimated valuation, if granted, of over a billion dollars.
Several significant start ups continue to work with Underhill to prepare the launch of their businesses.
